The SoloPlate is engineered to solve a problem every Leica M shooter knows but no one talks about, front heavy setups that tip forward the moment you set the camera down. With modern glass and heavier lenses, stability becomes a real limitation. The SoloPlate eliminates that.

At its core, this is a precision machined base plate designed specifically for the Leica M11 & MEV1 platform. It integrates seamlessly with the bottom of the camera, maintaining the original form while adding real functionality where it matters.

The ultra thin Arca Profile is built directly into the plate, allowing instant tripod compatibility without adding bulk. No extra plates, no stacking, no compromise. Mount and go.

Installation is simple and secure using the included 1/4 inch screw. To make this even more practical in the field, every SoloPlate includes the Owlkrown EDC Keychain Tool. A compact flathead and hex solution designed to live with you, so adjustments are always within reach.

The defining feature is the integrated sliding kickstand. Engineered with precise tolerances, it deploys smoothly when needed and locks into position to support your camera upright. When not in use, it disappears cleanly into the plate, maintaining a minimal footprint.

This allows your Leica to stand vertically with mounted lenses that would normally force it to fall forward. Whether you are shooting, swapping lenses, or setting your camera down between frames, the SoloPlate adds a level of control and confidence that changes how you handle your gear.

Available in Aged Brass, Black Patina, and Black Chrome Aluminum.

Each finish is selected with purpose, not just for looks but for how it performs and evolves with your camera.

The brass options, Aged Brass and Black Patina, bring added weight and a more planted feel when shooting with heavier lenses. Over time, they develop natural wear that enhances their character, matching the timeless nature of the Leica M system.

The Black Chrome Aluminum version is designed for a lighter, more agile setup. It maintains strength and precision while reducing overall carry weight, making it ideal for everyday shooting without compromise.

Weight:

  • Brass Version: 110 grams

  • Aluminum Version: 46 grams

Benefits at a glance:

  • Keeps your Leica M upright with heavier lenses, no more front tipping
  • Built in Arca Swiss profile for direct tripod mounting
  • Sliding kickstand, deploys instantly, disappears when not needed
  • Maintains the original camera form, no added bulk or awkward shapes
  • Fast installation with included tool, designed for everyday carry
  • Improves workflow when shooting, resting, or changing lenses
  • Precision fit specific to Leica M11 & M EV1 systems

The SoloPlate is not an accessory, it is an extension of the camera. It lets your Leica rest the way it always should have, stable, upright, ready.

Note:

The SoloPlate has been tested with a wide range of lenses. Extremely large and heavy lenses such as the Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 ASPH represent the upper limit of stability depending on surface and setup. For best performance, use on flat and stable surfaces.

Designed and manufactured in Miami.

I have been wrestling with the idea of adding accessories to my M11-P. The purist in me doesn't want to add anything to the camera. It's a bit like a Porsche 911 - the design is so well resolved that adding anything aftermarket risks upsetting the balance. That's how I've always felt about the Leica M11-P. It's beautiful in form, perfectly proportioned, and just feels right in the hand.

That said, after a couple of years of ownership, I've come to realize there is room for some ergonomic improvements.

Everyone's needs will be different, but the first accessory I would recommend is a handgrip. It simply makes the camera feel more secure in use. Mine happens to be Leica's own grip rather than OwlKrown's. If I were buying today, I would probably choose the OwlKrown version because the grip is angled and appears more ergonomic, while Leica's is straight.

Now, onto the OwlKrown SoloPlate in Black Patina.
The first thing you'll notice is the weight. At 110 grams, you definitely feel it when you first pick up the camera. Once you're out shooting, it largely disappears, but if you're someone who pairs an M body with heavier lenses, you know every gram matters.

The next thing you'll notice is the fit and finish. It is exceptional. It doesn't feel like an accessory bolted onto the camera; it feels like it belongs there. The machining, finish, and attention to detail are all top-notch.
The plate adds roughly a quarter inch in height, and the base flares slightly at both the front and rear. In practice, that small change makes a noticeable difference. My right-hand pinky naturally settles onto the flared base, making the camera feel more secure and comfortable to hold. An unexpected bonus is that my left-hand ring finger seems to find the opening for the battery-release mechanism and rest there naturally. It's one of those small details you don't appreciate until you actually use it.

Of course, the main purpose of the SoloPlate is to help balance heavier lenses, and it does that flawlessly. Whether it's a heavier 50mm or one of the larger modern lenses, the camera feels a little more planted in the hand.

Here I have the Konica Hexanon AR 57mm f/1.2 mounted on the camera. It's an absolute beast of a lens, and with the SoloPlate attached, the setup stands upright flawlessly. It's a small thing, but surprisingly convenient when setting the camera down between shots.

If I were purchasing it again, I might consider the Black Chrome version simply because of the reduced weight and more understated appearance. That said, the Black Patina brass is absolutely gorgeous. It adds just enough character without crossing into flashy territory.

I also added the matching 12mm EyeKup. Honestly, I bought it mostly because it looked cool and matched the SoloPlate. What surprised me was how much I actually enjoy using it. As someone who wears glasses, I found it genuinely useful and far more comfortable than expected. It's one of those accessories that sounds unnecessary until you've lived with it for a while.

I also own OwlKrown's adjustable strap. I mainly use it during the winter months when the amount of clothing I'm wearing changes daily. Being able to quickly adjust the length depending on layers and outerwear is incredibly convenient.

After spending time with several of their products, it's clear that OwlKrown isn't simply making accessories - they're thoughtfully refining the Leica shooting experience. The engineering, craftsmanship, and design are all worthy companions to Leica gear.

For better or worse, they may save you a lot of time researching. You can stop searching and start shooting.

Stunning craftsmanship and feel.
Fits the camera like a glove, the brass is of very high quality.
And the kickstand is a winner.

Thank you again, Eirik! It means a lot to hear that the craftsmanship and feel live up to expectations. We take great pride in the fit and the quality of the brass, so that's wonderful to hear. And yes, the kickstand is one of our favorite details too! We hope you enjoy it for years to come.

*UPDATE*
A real wow experience. Received a call from OwlKrown’s owner, Gaston, who explained why there was a small gap between the camera’s baseplate and the SoloPlate. Not often I get such great follow up. Explanation made perfect sense and, as I mentioned, the LCD leveler will help with any small, if any discrepancies. So now consider this a great lightweight addition for my M’s.

Really a 3-1/2 Star. Good concept for a lightweight horizontal Arca Swiss bracket that's with you all the time. The slide out to keep the camera from tipping is, IMO, not really necessary. The plates (I bought 2) do not sit flush with the base plate of the M's, but with LCD leveling I don't think it matters; just not the type of tolerances I'm used to with my Leicas. Also a bit pricey, but it is for a Leica, so that's expected. If there was a version without the slide out that would be less expensive, that would be great.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback - we truly appreciate it! We always want to improve, and reviews like yours help us do exactly that. We hope the call with Gaston was helpful and that we were able to address your concerns. As mentioned, removing the rubber padding would let the plate sit flush, but we do not recommend it as it protects the metals from rubbing against each other. We hope you find the SoloPlate works great for you in the end. We really hope you enjoy it!

The base plate complements the design beautifully and provides a practical solution for supporting heavier lenses, such as the Noctilux, while still allowing the camera to stand securely.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Franz! The Noctilux is a really heavy lens, so we're glad the SoloPlate is up to the task. It means a lot to know it's hitting that sweet spot between practicality and aesthetics. We really appreciate you complimenting SoloPlate and taking the time to share your experience, we hope you continue to enjoy shooting with your setup!

Thank you so much for your taking the time to leave a review! We're really glad to hear that you're happy with the build quality of the SoloPlate and that it holds steady even with a lens attached - that stability was definitely a key design goal for us. Regarding the grip - noted, it is in the works.

Great quality of build. It kept my M11 from tilting forward even putting on the Notilux 50mm F0.95.

We are so stoked you love it. The Nocti 0.95 does push it to its maximum limit! Would love to see that setup and if you could share the amazing setup and tag us on instagram @owlkrown
We are hoping to add Nocti 0.95 to our arsenal one day as well!
