The SL3 is the camera we shoot here, for photo, for video and on the street. The plate that came out of those days is not a baseplate replacement. It is a base layer.
What it addresses
A working day on the SL3 asks for several things at once, and until now each one arrived as a separate part. An Arca plate to find. A tripod plate to forget at home. A tracker taped somewhere it can be seen. A card wallet in a pocket at the bottom of the bag. Each part solves its own problem and adds one of its own: another thing to fit, another thing to lose.
We wanted one plate discreet enough to live on the camera permanently, carrying what the day actually needs, and able to build into a rig when the job asks for more.
What is on it
- A pinky ledge. The little finger finally has somewhere to land. Long days, heavy glass, larger hands, a fast pace.
- A concealed Arca profile. Flush at the base, so the camera drops straight onto a tripod or a rig with no separate plate.
- A hidden AirTag compartment. The camera can tell you where it is. Nothing on the outside says so.
- Two spare cards, one external and one internal, already on the camera when the card fills.
- Two 1/4-20 mounts for tripods, cages, arms and straps.
- Anti-skid contact points, so the camera stays planted on a table, a case lid or a car hood.
Modular, and that is the point
The plate is finished on its own, and it is also the mount everything else builds onto. An L bracket for vertical work without moving the head, a side handle for video days and long lenses, a top handle for low angles and rigged work. Each one mounts to the same base. The camera changes shape with the work instead of being replaced.
This announcement is for the plate. The bracket and the handles are on the bench, in development, and each will be sold separately.
How it is made
Machined from solid billet, tumbled, bead blasted, then finished in house with Type III hardcoat anodize, the hardest of the anodize classes. Designed and engineered in Miami by photographers who shoot these bodies every day.
